2016-2017 Curtis School Policies & Information

School begins at 8:00 AM and ends at 2:10 PM. doors open at 8:00 and there is NO supervision before then.

Please do not send students early - their safety is our joint concern.

In addition doors are locked after the begging of the day and late arrivals must use the Bloodgood Street entrance.

All students arriving after 8:10 AM should have a written note and report to the main office.

Students are expected to be in school unless illness or a family emergency keeps them from attending. On the day a student is absent from school, a parent or guardian should notify the school by phone by 9:30 am. Upon returning to school, the parent or guardian must provide a written excuse stating the date and reason for the absence. A student must be in attendance during the school day in order to attend after-school activities. Each parent or guardian of a child within the compulsory school attendance age is responsible for the child's regular and punctual attendance at school as required by law.

All bus students will ride the bus home unless we receive a written request by a parent/guardian.  No verbal excuses are accepted.

This is school department policy.

Please update the office with any changes to this information.  This includes home phone numbers, cell phone numbers, and street address.  In the event of an emergency, we would refer to these records to contact you.

In addition, all parents are required to provide the school with proof of residency every year.

As a direct response to the school departments' legal responsibility to all of our students, no student is to be dismissed to anyone except a parent/guardian or designated adult who must show proper identification.

Please address a written request to the student's teacher.  The student will be dismissed from the office.

We encourage you to schedule medical appointments before or after school.

PTO - Parent Teacher Organization

Curtis has an active PTO which meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 6:30 PM in the school library.

Parents interested in serving as volunteers should contact the office for more information.

School Improvement Team

Parents are invited to serve on the school improvement team which meets monthly in the mornings before school, this group revises and assists in implementing the school improvement plan.  Please email Mr. Lazzareschi at [email protected] if interested in participating.

For the safety of our students, ONLY school personnel are allowed to drive into the parking area.  This rule will be strictly enforced.  Children must play in the enclosed school yards only.  No child is to cross the parking lot area.  The Checker Club has graciously allowed us the use of their lot for dismissal only - do not park there for school events.

All parents and visitors must report to the office to obtain a visitor's pass.  Parents who wish to meet with a teacher should contact the office in advance to set up an appointment.

The school will notify all families via a monthly newsletter of extra curricular activities and events that are scheduled each month.  All members of Curtis families are welcome to attend these functions.  Please remember however that children MUST be accompanied at school functions by a responsible adult.

Students are expected to arrive on time. All students who are late for school must first report to the main office. The office will update the tardy list, handle ordering lunch (if need be), and then the student can proceed to their classroom. Students who are late and have a written excuse from a parent or guardian stating the date and reason for tardiness are excused. All other instances of tardiness are unexcused.

Please be aware that Bloodgood Street is a ONE-WAY street from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM and from 1:30 PM to 4:00 PM.
